BIND is an open source DNS software system including an authoritative server, a recursive resolver and related utilities.
BIND 9.16 - Approaching EOL April 2024
BIND 9.16 introduced the KASP (Key and Signing Policy) tool, and also incorporated substantial refactoring of the network sockets, although this change is not user-visible. This version was released in March, 2020, and is approaching EOL after 4 years of support. Recommend upgrading to 9.18.
BIND 9.18 - Current Stable, Extended Support version
BIND 9.18 is the current stable branch for 2022-2026. This version was declared ESV in 2023 and will be supported for 4 years in total. In addition to completing the network socket refactoring, this branch also includes BIND support for DNS over HTTPS (DoH) and DNS over TLS (DoT) two new encrypted transports for DNS.
BIND 9.19 - Current development branch
ISC does not recommend running this branch in production. This branch will become BIND 9.20 in Q2, 2024.
